About the Game Changer Awards

The Game Changer Awards were created in 2016 by WAITTA to encourage more young people into STEM careers.

The Awards were first held in 2016, with only a few schools attending forming a proof of concept of the program. Both students and teachers found the program to be rewarding, engaging and fun, and it was a resounding success.

In 2018 and 2019, the Awards expanded to over 50 teams from all over Perth and wider Western Australia.

Due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Game Changer Awards were delivered virtually. Despite this, the program has continued to grow in the following years. In, 2023, more than 70 project submissions from 190 students representing most regions of the State were received.

The 9th Game Changer Awards, held November 2024, was a significant success on attracting an even greater number of participating schools at 115, but engaging students from a number of diverse communities.

The Game Changer Awards

The Game Changer Awards is a STEM competition.
It presents an ideal opportunity for children in
Years 3 to 10 to showcase their innovative solutions to the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals using project based learning, STEM skills, organisation, teamwork and presentation skills.

Every year we receive submissions from teams and individuals of all types of schooling backgrounds from all over WA.

Schools will be able to showcase their STEM Programs and receive recognition for them.  Teachers, students and parents will have the opportunity to engage, share ideas and start new friendships with people from other schools, companies that sponsor the program and VIP guests from the local government and Universities.

About Entries   About Entries

Schools need to register their projects via the “Register Here” button found at the top of every page of this website. Registrations require a poster that showcases the project and the process that was followed to deliver it on time.

All successful entries will have the opportunity to showcase their project at the GCA State Finals & Awards Ceremony.

Student teams will be required to set up a project display (science fair) on the day and teams will have the opportunity to present their STEM project to a panel of judges. These judges will assess the merit of their projects during the day to determine the award winners.  Prizes are awarded to students and teachers in each year group for Best Overall Project, Best Use of STEM and Best Presentation.

Please understand that spaces for Project Showcase and Awards Ceremony are limited, so be sure to get your entries in quick so that your school doesn’t miss out.

In the tradition of science fairs, we encourage students to unleash their inner innovator to create projects aimed at developing and utilising STEM skills.
